I like giving my dog a challenge with this toy. She has fun searching for the hidden treats. There is one part she still hasn’t figured out, the part with the round knob. Even though she knows this toy well, it’s still fun for her. When I pick it up she gets excited to “play again”. Good for a rainy day, although it only lasts for a couple of minutes. Warning: it’s hard not to help at first…but just let the dog figure it out. I can’t really speak to chew-proof because my dog is small and is also not interested in chewing on this.

We love this tool! We bought it for mental stimulation and animal enrichment, hoping to keep pup more challenged and less bored.

First time using it: I sat with her for 20-30 min and helped her learn to push the capsules with her nose, each time she touched it I would help it spin to reward, we progressed to me half turning it and her nuzzling it over the rest of the way, then by the end she was spinning it most of the way and I just bumped it a bit to finish the spin. We put it away when done to discourage possible chewing.

Second time use: pup was excited and quickly went to turning the capsules, successfully emptied them all solo. I left it out for awhile to see if she was tempted to chew it. So far it’s fine but we will continue to put it away when unsupervised for the first week.

Later this week I’ll upgrade to the harder capsule lids to present more of a challenge.

Eating about a half cup of food went from under a minute to about 10 minutes.

There are basically four individual puzzles but two of the four puzzle bases will not lock firmly in place, so that my dog can’t do the puzzle the correct way using the lever because it basically comes off its base when she starts hunting for the treat and trying to actually perform the puzzle. It seems as though some of the plastic pieces that protrude into the base floor are not substantial enough to keep it in place.

My dog LOVES this puzzle. See video of her calling my bluff (I mixed treats with her kibble…she won’t eat the kibble until she empties all the bottles and is certain there’s no more treats left).

My dog finished the first puzzle I got her within 45 seconds the first time she tried it. She next two puzzles I’ve given her did not take much longer than that, so I had pretty low expectations for this one. Not only does she LOVE this puzzle, she begs me to refill it when she’s done. It keeps her busy for a few minutes, mostly because the bottles are tiny. I gave it 4 stars because it is very small, both in width and height, but it’s fine for her size. The cap with the small holes is WAY too small and useless, so that limits the variety. We have only had it for a week, so I cannot speak to the durability, but it is definitely not chew proof, so I can see that being an issue for some dogs.

I was considering the LOOBANI, and I may invest in it in the future, as it seems more sturdy, but with the Trixie being about half the price and with how much she loves it, we are very happy with our purchase.

This toy was initially purchased for our small fearless pup, Millie, but she was only interested in the retrieval of treats once Murphie had done the work. Murph is a 9 yo rescue and weighs 35lbs. It took him about 15 minutes to figure out how to get this to work. He was initially trying to bite the tops but after a few tries he really got the hang of it.
We mixed their kibble and small treats together in each tube.
I was able to put this together very quickly. I would definitely recommend this.

Shipped great with no damage to the box. I’m not sure if I got a faulty one, or if the two halves of the tube aren’t supposed to be fully stuck together, but it seems a bit flinsy. I had to really try to get the two halves of the tube to line up and stay attached. My dog started off solving it correctly, but quickly realized she could push the tower over and get all the food at once, because it’s just resting in the base, not snapped in. Going forward, I’m going to super glue the tube into the base so that it can’t be removed by cheating like this. The overall idea of the toy is great, and considering I got it on sale for under $10 I can’t be too mad, there are just a few flaws in the design.

For reference, my dog is 7 pounds and easily knocked the tube over by pawing at the blue pieces. My dog has solved a few different easy/beginner puzzles before and did not seem confused by any of the components of this puzzle.

I also wouldn’t use anything that would leave a residue in this toy, because it seems difficult to fully clean. There are crevices in the base I can tell would collect water. All in all, it’s a fun buy when it’s on sale if your dog isn’t too rough on puzzles.

My skinny, shy, 5 pounder took about 15 minutes before she realized she could open the door with her nose. Those cookies are gone. She hasn’t used her paws yet but when she decides it’s time for another snack she’ll figure out the step.
Meanwhile her 15 pound sister and 30 pound cousin are still outside. They will jail break this in seconds because for them might makes right. They literally run right over her. I may wait until my little girl learns all 4 boxes.
