I ordered this JAYVAR Onion Holder for Slicing to use when slicing onions and potatoes.
I don’t generally have any issues slicing potatoes, but onions always seem to slip away. I often end up wasting a lot of my onions because those last pieces are just too hard to safely hold. I was hoping that this little device would solve that problem.
The holder does a good job holding an onion while slicing it. The tines are quite sharp and penetrate the onion (or potato) easily. Because you need to fit your knife between the handle of the holder and the onion, slicing takes some time. The slices you get, though are pretty even. I tend to prefer my onions to be sliced very thin, and the spaces between the tines produce slices that are thicker than I like. It’s easy to produce thicker slices (just by skipping one of the tines) but there is no easy way that I could think of to make the slices thinner. I do like that this tool comes with a piece that covers the sharp tines so that you won’t get poked while reaching into a drawer.

This handy-dandy holder for slicing does its job beautifully. It’s made me much less worried when I see my husband slicing onions, lemons, or limes & makes me a more confident slicer as well. It pops in the dishwasher & cleans beautifully, although it can also be hand washed. Highly recommend.
